The AGV automatic guided trolley contains an automatic guidance system, and the AGV relies on it to travel automatically along a certain route. The automatic guidance techniques used in different types of AGV systems vary, and which guidance technique will directly affect the performance of all aspects of the automated guided vehicle system.

According to the nature of the AGV running route in the AGV system, the guiding system can be divided into three types: fixed path guidance, free path guidance, and combined path guidance:
1. Fixed path guidance means that the AGV running route is specified in a specific form.
The specific route may be a guiding cable in the electromagnetic induction guiding, a magnetic strip in the magnetic guiding, and a reflective strip in the optical guiding.
2. Free path guidance means that the AGV's running route is without any specific form of running track, and the AGV runs along a virtual route. This virtual route is determined by the control system indirectly through some indicating devices, and computer vision and other guiding methods. Both belong to this category.
3. Combined path guidance means that the AGV runs along a specific form of fixed route in most working areas, and in some areas can run along the virtual route specified by the control system. The two paths are represented by solid lines and broken lines respectively. . Different guiding techniques in the above two types of guiding methods are generally used in combination.
In general, fixed path guidance is easier to implement and the technology is more mature, but the change of the running route is relatively difficult. The cost of free path guidance is high, and there are still some specific problems to be solved in practical applications, but the change of the AGV running route is easy and the flexibility is high. Combined path guidance combines the advantages of the two types of guidance systems.
